Utica - Herbert L. Meeker, Jr., 50, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on April 21, 2019.
He was born November 7, 1968, in Utica, a son of Herbert L., Sr. and Anna (Wrobel) Meeker. He graduated from UFA in the Class of 1986, and attended Mohawk Valley Community College.
Herbert most recently was a self-employed contractor, specializing in interior and exterior home repairs. He had also worked at Garro’s Drugs, and at the former St. Luke’s Hospital as a surgical technician.
He had a keen interest in music and particularly enjoyed the music of Queensryche, Black Sabbath and Mötley Crüe. Herbert was an avid bodybuilder in his earlier years, and he enjoyed attending professional wrestling matches with his daughter.
Survivors include his beloved daughter, who he loved more than anything in the world, Alissa Meeker of Utica; two brothers, Charles Meeker and Timothy (Christine) Meeker, all of Utica; six sisters, Christine (Pete) Molnar of Utica, Carla (Ray) Smith of Carthage, Cheryl Rios of Utica, Charmain Meeker of Utica, Carol Biszick of Utica, and Charlene (Kenny) Major of Utica; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Herbert also held a very special place in his heart for his daughter’s brother, Tyler DeMarco. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by “Princess”, his adored Pomeranian dog.
Herbert’s family wishes to acknowledge the professional and compassionate demeanor of the Utica Police Department and Utica Fire Department personnel that responded to assist the family. Their kindness will forever be remembered.
His funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 1123 Court Street, Utica. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the funeral, beginning at noon. Online messages of sympathy may be left at www.fwefh.com.
