Helen Taylor Humphrey, 90, of Utica, died May 7, 2018 at the Sigenthaler Center.

She was born November 30, 1927 in Springfield, MA the daughter of the late James and Theodora Childs Taylor. She graduated from St. Mary’s Episcopal School in Peekskill, NY and Bennington College. Helen received her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from SUNY Oneonta.

On December 27, 1958 she married Russell A. Humphrey at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Utica.

Helen taught for over 60 years in the Utica City School District primarily at Roosevelt School and then as a substitute. After her retirement from teaching she worked at The Diet Workshop. Helen made many lifelong friends with former students, parents and clients in her two careers. She was former member of the Junior League of Utica.

One of Helen’s great pleasures was spending time with and entertaining family and friends at their camp in the Town of Russia.

She is survived by her husband Russell; a niece Teddy Llovet of CA; three brothers-in-law, Michael Humphrey of New Hartford, James Humphrey of Grant, NY, Gregory Humphrey of FL and their families. She also leaves her adopted family Matt, Audrey and Julia of Mill Road. She was predeceased by her brother Addison C. Westcott. She leaves her current canine pal, Dieter who is fourth in a line of Daschunds that she loved dearly. His predecessors were Hansel, Bismarck and Taylor.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Razia and her staff for all of the care given to Helen.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Interment will be in Butterfield family lot at Forest Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society in memory of Helen.
