We are the co-editors of the New Lebanon Central School (NY) alumni newsletter, which is the high school from which Libby graduated in 1934. Libby had hand-written and sent us her biography to be included in our fall 2019 newsletter. We went to visit Libby twice that year in New Hartford as she was approaching 100 years old to meet her, review her story, and ask her some questions. During both visits, she walked us through the halls of her facility, talked with us of old times, and it was just a pleasure to get to know her! We were so impressed by her memory, the appreciation she showed us for printing her story, and her general sweetness! The New Lebanon Central School has lost (to the best of our knowledge) its oldest graduate, both in age and number of years since graduation and we both feel like we have lost a friend! We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Libby's family.

Elizabeth "Libby" Wheeler Hughes
Libby was the soul of the Mohawk District the years I was pastor at Oneida First. She would help any pastor, any church and especially District Superintendent Johnson. Her warm smile and welcoming personality made people feel comfortable even if it was their first time at a district event. When I was invited to assist occasionally at Stephentown Federated Church I found that same spirit, undoubtedly why Libby always thought of it as her home church. One of the marks of God’s grace throughout the scripture is hospitality. Libby personified hospitality in her words and in her actions
