Mr. Boyle and my father Philip Knight were close pals growing up in Utica together. Their time at UFA and friends they made there were important to them all their lives. Mr. Boyle was the best man at my parents' wedding. It is thanks to him that I have some insight into my father as a young man, because Mr. Boyle shared with my family some letters he received from him, back when people tried to express big ideas and hopes in letters. I am also grateful to Mr. Boyle for sharing clippings of Utica news related to my grandfather's passing, who died long before I was born. Not many people save such things, and then later make the effort to pass them on to those for which it would mean very much. I'm so grateful to Mr. Boyle for that. My father passed about a month and a half prior to Mr. Boyle. It was very special that Mr. Boyle made the effort to attend my father's burial in Whitesboro with my family. He gave me as gifts that day a wonderful old phone directory of Utica, as well as an historic Utica Tribute edition. I like to think he is very happy to be reunited now with his sister, parents, friend and other old pals.

I knew Bill Boyle from our time together on the board of what was then the Oneida County Historical Society. I also remember a trip to the inauguration
of a new president at Keuka College, where Bill was president emeritus and I
represented Utica College. With his passing, we have lost a strong civic leader
and a man of high educational achievements and standards. R.I.P.
