Just yesterday, I was speaking about the tremendous experience and education that I received working with Tom and being part of the Ryan family - babysitting for the kids and just enjoying you is my Utica family. I was so surprised today while looking you up online and see the that Tom had passed away and buried just yesterday. Also I am so very sorry to see Valerie has also passed Please know you are all, always in my heart. Sending you much love.

I was so sorry to hear of Dr. Ryan's passing. He would complete case reviews for the Quality Management Department at the St. Luke's and SEMC campuses. We always looked forward to his visits, as he was a sweet man, and an experienced teacher. He truly believed that medical professionals should stay "up to date" on best practice. We were blessed to have known him.

Dr. T. Ryan was a joy to work with. He would complete medical reviews for us in the Quality Management Department at St. Luke's and SEMC campuses. I of course had the pleasure of sitting with him at the Luke's campus when he completed the reviews. He was an was an experienced, knowledgeable, and kind physician, who always took the opportunity to provide us with teaching moments. As smart as he was, he always kept current, and continued to learn. He especially beamed when speaking of his attendance at " Tumor Board". The RNs in the office always looked forward to his visits.
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of this sweet and respected man. Had I not just read his obituary, I would have attended the service.

Dr. Thomas Ryan MD was my Mentor, and one of the greatest teachers i had in my life. Very Dedicated and guided my family and myself. I owe him more than words can say for his great advise and career guidance over the past 30 years.
He will be missed dearly .

I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Ryan’s passing. I think of you often Barb and I pray for your strength at this difficult time. God bless you Dr. Ryan.

I am greatly saddened to hear of the death of Dr. Tom Ryan. We worked together for several years in Utica in the practice of Medical Oncology, from 1985 until I moved away in 1998. We took call for each other if one of us was away and I learned much from my association with him, probably more than I can even recall now. I certainly remember his passion for fishing, since almost every Tuesday morning at dawn he would go up north for fly-fishing (in the Salmon River I think) and I would take call for him, as he would for me so that I could have a day away from the office.

Tom was highly regarded in the medical community as a thoughtful, skillful ,and caring physician . He always devoted his energies not just to his own patients but also to continuous efforts to review and improve the level of medical care in our hospitals and individual practices.

Dr Ryan was a special legend. He spent countless hours teaching us , training us, listening to all our difficult cases and giving us all support during my medical training years at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

I send my condolences toBarb and her family. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time. I am enrolling Tom’s name into our Memorial Society. A mass will be celebrated in May and November in susequent years in Tom’s memory.

Dr Ryan treated me for Hodgkin's Disease in 1982 when I was 13 years old. Here I am over 40 years later, still thanking him from time to time in my mind.

Grew up in Utica...

Dr. Ryan was my doctor who diagnosed my Leukemia over 50 years ago, and he told me, and my family then, that the type I had was considered acute, and that I should live a long life, well he was right. I have outlived my father, mother, and sister, and happy to say I no longer have the leukemia he diagnosed, as well as having no medications, no surgeries, and no chance of it coming back, as per Dr. Draglia, who was his intern at the time, It simply isn't there anymore. Thank god, and Dr. Ryan for his diligence in helping me cope with the leukemia. A remarkable man, rest in peace, and condolences to his family.
