I am at my desk in my study looking at a picture of the 1954 Ridley College Cadet Corps Marching Band with me on Bugle and Danny Evans playing the Glockenspiel. Approximately fifteen years later I ran into Danny in NYC. He introduced me to the Jazz scene and, both of us being bachelors, we traversed the Big Apple in search of wine, women and song with some degree of success.
One night in Bill's Gay Nineties bar I proposed to Hazel who today is my beloved wife of 53 years. For a wedding present, Danny gave us a handsome set of Beer Steins, a welcome and fitting present.
Hazel and I moved from New York but still stayed in touch with occasional phone calls. When Danny started being forgetful the calls were more frequent, and we would repeat our various escapades at Ridley and in New York ad infinitum, but we always ended up laughing and with great memories.
I already miss talking with Danny and I miss his laugh.
He was a good friend - for a long time!

To the Evans family: I enjoyed Dan's love of music and his gift of storytelling while attending services at Grace Church. He was always very active in the church outside of his desire to make the music performed at Grace Church more meaningful to the congregation. He cared deeply for the congregants of Grace Church, and he will be truly missed by us all.

It’s been said we each have a gift, and our purpose in life is to share that gift with others. Dan fulfilled that purpose. He had a Gift and he loved to share with others. He brought so much joy to countless people with the amazing talent he had as a pianist.

He was a lover of books and an avid reader. History was probably his favorite subject, and I was always amazed by the details he could recite and am grateful for what he taught me.

You will be missed by many, Danny. Fly high and play for the angles.
