Very much enjoyed reading details of Cathy’s Wonderful life. The obituary did a great job of touching on the highlights of her life. I’m a few years younger than Cathy and became good friends with her brother Bobby and then by extension most of her family. The highest compliment I could say about her was that she was a splitting image of her mother. But she also incorporated her dad’s excellent work in the law. My favorite movie is “ IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE “ with Jimmy Stewart. If there’s a female equivalent of Jimmy Stewart, that was Cathy.
Recalling many sweet remembrances of growing up and going over to there play at their home. What stands out to me the most was the way her mom treated me. Cathy’s mom welcomed me like a VALUED friend of the family. That was so important to me as a kid, here’s this grownup really glad to see me and I’m only a kid. I mention that story since it’s dear to my heart and that’s the way Cathy was. When we’d meet at church it seemed that we would always go down memory lane. Those sweet memories of our youth will live forever in my mind. Cathy was ENTHUSIASTICALLY WARM with people. She was able to express sincere JOY all the time. She was a prolific NOTE WRITER. When I say prolific, I mean prolific. Just like her mom, always a handwritten note to someone at the perfect time it was needed. Always HANDWRITTEN showing happiness, encouragement, love or or just simply good will. She also credited her father as being a really good note writer. So like Roy Rodgers used to sing at the end of his TV show I say to Cathy. “Happy trails to you until we meet again “ “ Happy trails to you until we meet again “ !

Dear Ed,
I have such wonderful memories of getting to know Cathy during your formation in the deaconate. She was so much fun, always happy. Knowing the journey of grief intimately, I pray now and will continue to in the future. I will miss her letters and updates on your life. Take this journey day by day with the Lord.

Greg and I enjoyed connecting with Kathy and Ed at New Hartford's Class of '64 60th reunion and we were hoping to see them in the Adirondacks in warmer weather. Kathy was a good friend through high school and we fondly remember the good times we shared. The world is a little colder today . . .

Dear Deacon Ed and Family,

Oh my goodness! I am so very sorry for your loss. Please accept my sincerest condolences. I always enjoyed seeing her smiling face whenever she came to the rectory when I was working there. Always had wonderful chats. Her faith was strong so we know she is standing with the Blessed Mother and a wonderful time to be in heaven celebrating the birth of Jesus. God bless you all and keep you under His mantle of protection and love.
Sincerely,
Irene Scalise

On behalf of the Ahrendtsen family, I send our condolences on the passing of Cathy. We shared classes at St John the Evangelist and memories of those years growing up in New Hartford fondly include the Bankerts.

I went to grammar school with Cathy (St John the Evangelist: grades 3 thru 8). She was always one of the smartest kids in the class. Surprised that she did not continue at UCA or DeSales, but later learned that her mom nixed those due to her becoming boy-crazy. (Her mom was a force.)

My wife (Elaine) and I were privileged to spend time with Cathy and Ed over the last several years (visiting us at Brantingham, going out to dinner in Utica, working to save Notre Dame school, etc.).

Cathy will be missed! Our prayers are with Ed.

I met Kathy as part of a bible study group. She was a wonderfully caring person and will be very much missed. She showed me great kindness during the recent passing of my husband. I always enjoyed our conversations and will miss them.
