Utica – Carol A. Chapman, 71, of Utica, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2018, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, with her partner Ron and niece Joann by her side.

She was born September 18, 1946, in Utica, a daughter of Malcolm and Joyce (Crabb) Mykel. She attended Utica schools. Carol retired from the former St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital in 1999, where she had worked as a Delivery Room Technician. Her career at St. Luke’s had begun in 1967.

In her free time, Carol enjoyed camping with her family, especially at Verona Beach State Park and at Nick’s Lake near Old Forge. She was a meticulous housekeeper, always busy finding something to clean or polish.

In addition to Orrin “Ron” Serviss, her partner of 29 years, she is survived by a son, Richard, and his wife Christine, and a daughter, Debbie, all of Glenfield; two grandchildren, Brian and James Chapman; a niece, Joanne Clawson of Holland Patent, and her children Kevin, Stacey, Matthew and Alex; a stepson, Ronnie, and his wife Christine; a stepdaughter, Melanie Lavier and her husband Phil; and several step-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers, David, Bobby and Leslie, and a sister, Joan.

The family would like to offer their thanks to staffs at The Pines, St. Luke’s Home, and Faxton-St. Luke’s ICU, remembering especially Nurse Melissa Gotte, for the kind and compassionate care given to Carol.

In accordance with Carol’s wishes there are no calling hours or services. Arrangements are under the direction of Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, Utica.
