Burton G. Ambrose, 77, of New Hartford passed away peacefully on November 23, 2017.

Bud was born on September 5, 1940 in Utica, NY, son of Burton W. and B. Gertrude VonEsch Ambrose. He graduated from New Hartford High School and received an Associate's degree from MVCC. Bud married Barbara Williams on November 3, 1990 in New Hartford.

He worked at Niagara Mohawk for 47 years retiring in 2008.

Bud enjoyed bowling on Mondays at the Pin-O-Rama in the Columbia Merchants League with his friends from work. He also liked, to say the least, playing golf socially as well as in the Niagara Mohawk Golf League for many years. He followed in his father's footsteps as a member of the New Hartford Fire Dept. and, notably, his sons and grandsons have continued in the fire-fighting service. Bud looked forward to his weekly Thursday morning coffees with his friends and colleagues well after retirement.

Bud is survived by his wife Barbara; his children Mark (JoAnne) of Whitesboro, John of New Hartford, Barbara (Emilio) of New York City, Matthew (Julie) of Clark Mills, David of New Hartford, Courtney Wellar of Syracuse, and Aaron (Helen) Wellar of Vernon; and grandchildren Carmen, Nicholas, Gabrielle, Joshua, Zachary, Santiago, Annabella, and Lucas who all brought a smile to his face. He is also survived by his sisters Carol Gschwind, Gretchen Baldrey, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Alicia and her staff in the Maple wing of the Presbyterian Home for their compassionate care and understanding.

The funeral mass will be Saturday December 2nd at 9am at St. John the Evangelist Church, Oxford Rd., New Hartford. The family will greet friends following the Mass In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Bud's name to the American Heart Association (heart.org), the Dementia Society of America (dementiasociety.org), The Brain Research Foundation (thebrf.org), or a charity of your choosing.

Arrangements are with Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, New Hartford.
