Condolences

Aunt Joan my deepest deepest condolences To you and the boys and all of your extended family, his photo is exactly how I remember him and I have always thought of him that way beautiful choice. He lived a great life, gave back, a gave back to others and yes, sometimes he was really strict but I know too. Aunt Joan that you two were so close. Have comfort that he is with our Lord now and that he is at peace. I’m so sorry. I’m down in Atlanta and I can’t get there. I didn’t know until just tonight. I love you guys. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. God Bless

Steve and Melanie,

So sorry to hear about the passing of Steve's father. Certainly a life well lived. In reading the obituary it appears he accomplished as much as three people. Looking at his picture you can see a lot of Steve.

I had the honor of working with Dick when he was at Critical Imaging. The honesty and integrity he displayed when working with my team at DCMA was the best part of my day. I will always remember him as a great person who gave his best.

During the many years I knew the General and served with him on the CABVI Board his wise council, leadership, friendship, and generosity was an important ingredient to our success. He will be missed and never forgotten.

My deepest sympathies to the Evans family. Dick was a great resource to my mom (his cousin Arline) when my dad, Paul passed as she navigated GE benefits, income taxes, and my FAFSA app for college. Dick generously sat for an interview with me for a college project. My parents thought highly of him & we were all blessed to call him our cousin. Karen Reilly Ellis

My sincere and deep condolences to the Evans Family,

General Evans is a person who I am proud to have been able to serve with and call my boss and a mentor, while assigned to the 205th Support Group, NYARNG. He was always a man of his word and a a leader in the true sense of what it means to be a leader. He lead from the front and never asked his subordinates for more than he was willing to give of himself.

One of many great memories I have of the General is that he loved to fly. It should be noted that General Evans was an accomplished civilian pilot. And although not rated to fly military helicopters, I would always let him handle the controls during any training missions that required the use of the helicopter. I always got a kick out of seeing him hunched over the cyclic stick, and the look of concentration and joy while he would work the controls of the aircraft.

I am honored to say General Evens was not just a boss, he was a mentor and most of all, he was, and still is, a man I call friend.

It was an honor to have served for BG Evans in the 102nd MP Battalion, 205th Support Group, and 42nd Infantry Division. Under BG Evans leadership all of his commands were exceptionally trained and prepared for activation at any time. Although BG Evans ran a tight ship all these commands were like family to him. I will always be thankful for his mentorship and friendship. I credit him for much of my successful career in the New York Army National Guard. Since BG Evans retired MG Shields, LTC Hulslander, and I would meet him several times each year for dinner. I will miss those get togethers where we talked old times and laughed a lot. BG Evans by far was the best Commander I served for over my thirty years of service. Our sincerest condolences to his wife and sons.

General Evans was my mentor, Commanding Officer and great friend. Since 1972, I have spent the majority of my military life with the General. He was also my partner in golf for many years as we went to Myrtle Beach on an annual basis. When he was asked to sit on my Board of Directors at CABVI, he did not hesitate. His leadership enhanced our mission to provide services to the blind and visually impaired. He truly influenced my life in many ways. His great legacy is one of leadership, friendship, mentorship and love of family. Our sincere condolences to the Evans family. We will all miss him very much.

Uncle Dick was my shining light for my 13 years in NYARNG going through OCS and having him pin my gold bar on at graduation finished as Captain then serving 32 years of State service retired to living in Sanford NC living on 2 18 hole country club. He was my beacon for the army love and respect for my uncle Tom Hanley
