New Hartford – Basman M. Aguam, MD, 78, of New Hartford, passed away peacefully July 12, 2018 at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Dr. Aguam was born December 7, 1939, in the Philippines, where he also received his education. He retired from the NYS Office of Mental Health in Utica following 40 years of dedicated service. An avid and formidable chess player, Dr. Aguam also enjoyed the quiet and solitude of tending to his gardens.

In addition to his wife, Arlene, he is survived by seven children, Rayan Aguam and his wife, Stephanie Davis, Sharon Davies and her husband, Richard, Daryle Aguam and his wife, Cindy, Samantha El Bayadi and her husband, Joseph, Alexis Aguam and her partner, Andrew Sblendorio, Lorraine Rigler and her husband, Steve, and Richard Ernst and his wife, Kristine; and eight grandchildren, Alyssa, Julia, Steven, Owen, Adam, Alex, Noelle, and Jack.

The family would like to thank the Hospice caregivers who were so caring and compassionate towards Dr. Aguam, remembering especially Irene. Their kindness benefitted not only Dr. Aguam, but his entire family as well.

In accordance with Dr. Aguam’s wishes, there are no calling hours, and funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
