Antoinette (Steet) Zalatan, 91, of New Hartford, went to be with the Lord on Resurrection Sunday, April 1, 2018, at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born March 14, 1927, in Utica, the daughter of the late George and Badawa (Hage) Steet.

Antoinette married Joseph Zalatan on September 1, 1946. Together, they owned and operated Zalatan’s Market on Sunset Ave in Utica for 38 years. After the death of her husband in 1982, Antoinette continued to operate the store for several years. She later worked for Price Chopper as a Super Sampler until her “early retirement” in 2013.

Antoinette was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, in New Hartford.

The life lessons and values that she taught and passed on to her family will remain with them throughout their lives. Her greatest love was her family. It gave her great joy to prepare dinners for family get togethers. The house would be filled with the sweet aroma of Lebanese food made “with love”, as she would say. She enjoyed playing cards and swimming through which she made many special friends. Her grandchildren will remember her as “THE BEST NONNY EVER!”

Antoinette is survived by her three sons, Joseph and (Linda) Zalatan, Al and (Lorna) Zalatan, Donald and (Donna) Zalatan; her daughters, Gayle and (Jeff) Claflin, Rose and (Mitchell) Spring; her daughters-in-law Marilyn Zalatan and Nancy Zalatan. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Laura, Debbie, Kristen, Kim and Joelle Zalatan, Kelly (Paul) Dickerson, Renee (Jerry) Pasqualetti, Adam, Alex, and Erica Zalatan, Kayla and Krista Zalatan, Bethany (Noah) Watt, Anna (Beau) Vandiver, Sarah Spring, Rebekah (Sam) Judd and nine great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Antoinette was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Joseph and (Mary) Steet, Thomas and (Margaret) Steet and her sister Genevieve Steet.

The family extends their sincere and heartfelt thanks for the care delivered by the Hospice Staff, especially to Irene, Lisa and Crystal. A special thanks to Sue Castilla for her devotion to our mom and family.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend Antoinette’s funeral service and celebration of life which will commence on Thursday, April 5th at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, Oxford Road, New Hartford. Antoinette’s family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Arrangements are with Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, New Hartford.
