Ruth Simmerer Chapple, 86, of Clinton, NY, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

She was born in Utica, NY, on April 15, 1938, to the late William A. and Ursula (Breckel) Simmerer. Ruth was a graduate of UFA and Russell Sage College; she also attended Graduate School at Penn State University.

On September 3, 1960, Ruth married Herbert F. Chapple in the former First Moravian Church in Utica, a union lasting 59 years.

She had been employed as a research chemist at the FDA Division of Antibiotics in Washington, D.C.; as an environmental chemist at Galson Technical Services in East Syracuse, NY; and as an adjunct professor of chemistry at Mohawk Valley Community College.

Ruth enjoyed gardening; she was a member of Master Gardener of Oneida County. She also volunteered at the Presbyterian Home and as a Girl Scout leader.

She is predeceased by her husband Herbert F. Chapple. She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca (John McNamara), Amanda Chapple (Chris Davern) and Pamela Chapple; her sons, Matthew Chapple (Wendy Colburn) and Kenneth Chapple (Michelle Fifis); eight granddaughters, Emily (Tim Neumeyer), Bridget, Grace and Maeve McNamara, Amy Davern, Quinci Chapple, Ruth Chapple, Cora Chapple; one grandson, Zachary Chapple; one great
granddaughter Imogen Knapp; one great grandson Ivan Knapp.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.
